my problem with these soilless grown vegetables ( called hydroponics) is its taste. Produce usually shiny and fresh but its taste is "watered down " or simply have no taste at all. it seems they focus on leafy vegetable like spinach , lettuce, arugula etc.. they use all these fancy words on their label " sustainability , less water more energy.. commitment to our community . but after all there is no good product there.. When i buy these hydroponically grown leafy vegetables they go bad quickly.. For this reason i stopped buying from Publix these types of vegetables all together. . Some may not be hydroponics but i am avoiding all together as its hard to tell which one is not. it must be about technique they use. i know some Canadian green house farmers grow vegetable with very good rich taste . Example is Ugly tomato sold in Wholefood stores. they are expensive but when ever i go there i buy it, taste is excellent and smell like a tomato.

Extraordinary experience having a tour of the hydroponic facility and seeing magnificent mixtures of Boston Butterhead, Arugula, Asian Blend, Baby Romaine, Kale and Spinach . They last several weeks longer than the typicalproduct of greens shipped across the country that wilt so quickly by weeks end have I have to throw away. If I buy organic Lettuce not sure if pesticides or fertilizers were used, however I know these Hydroponic Lettuce did not need pesticides or fertilizers since grown in a controlled environment in mineral rich water beds. I watched the process and no human hands touches the produce so no worries about E Coli bacteria. Just great to see a company master Hydroponics on a large scale and we can now eat healthier and safer!!
